Eu’S Trade With Agricultural Products: Consequences For Food Security

Abstract

Presently, it is now widely accepted that one of the major objectives of the Common Agricultural Policy is to ensure food security in the EU Member States. In addition to Member States' agricultural production and farm subsidies, security of supply of agri-food products is directly linked to trade with these products. Thus, this article aims to outline the overall developments in EU trade with agricultural products and to highlight the implications for food security in the EU-28 (whether or not there is dependence on agri-food imports) using the latest available European statistics.
