Author

Abstract

Starting with 2009 Greece has become a „pole‖ of instability for the European Union, and its stringent economic and financial problems revealed important structural weaknesses. The financial aid granted by the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Union has been conditioned by unprecedented austerity measures and reforms never applied before in the history of the Union. This article aims to synthesize the factors that led to the economic decline of Greece and to analyse the state of implementation of the reforms on the four strategic directions of action, as well as the evolution of certain macroeconomic indicators, relevant for its economic recovery. Therewith, the article highlights the perspectives regarding the long-term sustainability of the results achieved so far.
