Abstract

In foundry, sand-moulding takes maximum share of production than other moulding methods. So the foundry requires huge quantity of sand daily. To safeguard environmental issues it is necessary to reuse the sand repeatedly otherwise it also increases disposal cost. In view of increasing demand from environmental and economic aspects, the assessment of sand reclamation systems becomes outmost importance. This study illustrates the various sand reclamation techniques like dry, wet, thermal, cryogenic and microwave reclamation in term of their procedure and assessment. The thermal sand reclamation system is developed comprising of sub units like fluidised bed combustor and fluidised bed sand cooler for 20 kg sand capacity and tested for chemically bonded sand casting. In the present study, developed thermal sand reclamation system is tested and results are compared with different sand reclamation systems. The no-bake-sand can be satisfactorily reclaimed by newly developed thermal sand reclamation technique with appropriate sand quality.
