Abstract

More than any other theoretical perspective in the field of strategic management, the resource-based theory has drawn the attention of scholars and practitioners alike. This is particularly evident if variants of the theory, such as dynamic capabilities, the knowledge-based view and the relational view, are included. Regardless of the progress outlined, many longstanding challenges for resource-based theory remain. Moreover, as old challenges are overcome and the theory progresses, new challenges arise. This Foreword discusses the progress and challenges and the contributions of this special issue to the resource-based view of the firm.
