Antecedents of IT effectiveness in Indian retail sector

Abstract

Use of IT applications in retail is intensifying and countries such as India are going through the early stages of retail concentration and deployment of IT applications in retailing. Most of the past studies regarding use of IT applications in retail have focused merely on the benefits arising out of use of such applications. The present study is an attempt to explore the impact of IT related benefits as well as problems on the performance of IT in the retail sector. Results of the study indicate that IT related problems were having significant impact on the performance of IT in retail. Findings of the study also indicate that IT in retail is moving towards the commoditisation phase.
