Perception of primary school teachers regarding the inclusion of students with non-functional autism in regular education classes

Abstract

This article addresses a specific pathology, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), aiming to understand the perception of teachers of the first cycle of basic education on the inclusion of students with non-functional ASD in regular education classes. Having said that, a questionnaire, Google Forms, was applied to the teacher of the first cycle and special education of an organic unit of public education of the autonomous region of the Azores, and it was possible to collect 22 responses. The results collected indicate that the perception of teachers about the inclusion of students with ASD in regular education classes, focuses specifically on functional cases, stating that sometimes students do not have the cognitive ability to carry out a certain task.
