Abstract

This research demonstrates teaching and learning processes with quality levels for higher education. The basic strategy was application of the Metacognition and Learning Strategies Program in the teaching task at Mariana University in Pasto in 2009. The intention is to share the effect of the program application with Nursing and Social Work students, as Experimental Groups in terms of improvements in learning and academic performance. The study was boosted by the methodological design binding quantitative and qualitative paradigms. The mathematic-probabilistic study tested the hypothesis: The Experimental Groups have a better academic performance than the Control Groups. We propose that neither the student’s psychological profile nor career had an influence on academic performance. We conclude application of the Pedagogic-Disciplinal Program under the same inclusion criteria and contexts produced the same results in different knowledge areas
