State and Development Prospects of the Ukrainian Banking System

Abstract

The article is devoted to theoretical and methodological justification of the status and functioning prospects of the Ukrainian banking system. The authors used a systematic approach to the study of the object of research, using statistical and economic method, comparative analysis method, analogy method, tabular and graphical methods. The negative trends are characterized that have taken place in the banking business for the past two years. The analysis of the structure of assets and liabilities of commercial banks in Ukraine is performed, determined the growth rate of total assets, liabilities and equity of the domestic banking sector. On the basis of costs, revenues and financial results determined the return on assets and capital of Ukrainian banks. It was revealed that the main problems of the Ukrainian banking sector are a significant drain on resources, quality deterioration of loan portfolios, lag in growth of revenues from the growth rate of costs and, as a consequence, the negative financial results of banks. The evaluation of the effectiveness of regulatory policy of the National Bank of Ukraine is fulfilled. The prospective development aims of the Ukrainian banking system and the tools to achieve them are described.
