Abstract

The research aims to examine the perspectives of business and sociology students on science with the help of metaphors. Based on the metaphor of “learning is building,” a constructivist framework was used together with an interpretative methodology to investigate the impact of education on students' metacognition and learning processes. The business and sociology students are studying at Kutahya Dumlupinar University determined the research sample. From the participants Participants were asked to develop metaphors on "Science, Scientific Research Process and Scientist". The metaphor was used to communicate with students about learning processes consistent with constructivism. Students' thoughts on science were examined with metaphors. One hundred ninety-five participants participated in the research. The limitations of the research are that the sample consists of only Kutahya Dumlupınar University sociology and business students. While developing metaphors, it has been found that business students are affected mainly by economic processes, and sociology students are affected by processes related to the environment and nature. It is seen that researches on metaphor tend to focus more on professional tendencies. The research focuses on the effect of the education received by the students on their perceptions of science. It is seen that education significantly affects students' perception of science. It is seen that students can use the social science they have been educated in to understand nature.
