Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the way in which mass media identify and present symbolic events taking place in the academic world. Are they seen as media events per se? Do they have the features that can allow us to include them in the same category as media events? Are they communication tools in the academic environment and does the Romanian press present them as such? Our research focuses on finding the answer to these questions by analysing a series of articles published online whose topic refers to academic rituals such us: the start of the new school year, the graduation ceremony, the prom, the thesis defense, the conferral of honorary degrees, such as Honoris Causa and any other event that marks the academic life, its rhythm, its members.
