Abstract

This article attempts to assess the impact of institutional performance on the performances of the provinces and cities of the Third Italy. The study refers to the last 15 years, and observe the influence of local government consensus on the structure and performance of the local context by studying whether and how these variables are correlated. Moreover, the work will try to highlight how the effectiveness of governmental policies affect the dynamics of territorial development. In conclusion, the paper emphasises on the importance of new role for public actors to drive the economies of the Third Italy towards an institutional and socio-economic modernization (post-industrialization).
