Participaciones Preferentes: La Nefasta Experiencia Española

Abstract

en este artículo examinamos la experiencia de las participaciones preferentes, un producto financiero mediante el cual han sido estafadas decenas de miles de familias españolas. Se trata de un activo muy utilizado por las entidades financieras para captar recursos de pequeños ahorradores a partir del año 2000. La emisión masiva de estos activos se explica por la confluencia de varios factores: la implicación de las Cajas de Ahorros en la burbuja inmobiliaria (1999 - 2007); el colapso de los mercados financieros internacionales tras la quiebra de Lehman Brothers (2008) y la creciente exigencia de la normativa contable de las entidades financieras. Se estafó a los pequeños clientes para obtener de ellos los recursos que los inversores mayoristas estaban cada vez menos dispuestos a poner en manos de bancos y cajas.
