Análisis estadístico de la inflación en México en el nivel de subíndices y genéricos

Abstract

En este trabajo, se realiza un análisis estadístico detallado del comportamiento de las variaciones en los precios del Índice Nacional de Precios al Consumidor (INPC) de mayo 2003 a agosto 2006. La inflación general se vio afectada por distintos choques de oferta, en dicho período, los cuales propiciaron repuntes temporales de este indicador. La identificación de los subíndices y genéricos cuyos cambios en precios influyeron en las desviaciones temporales de la meta de inflación, establecida por el Banco de México, es relevante para evaluar el proceso inflacionario. Las diferentes técnicas estadísticas que se utilizaron permitieron identificar, durante la muestra en estudio, posibles problemas de clasificación de alguno de los diferentes subíndices y problemas de presiones inflacionarias sobre ciertos genéricos. Al analizar incidencias, resalta el hecho de que un número reducido de genéricos explicaba un importante porcentaje de la inflación general, durante el período estudiado.
