Abstract

The study explored the challenges of implementing gender-responsive pedagogy in Pre-service teachers’ chemistry lessons. The case study design was chosen for this research aim. Qualitative data were gathered through interviews and observation checklists. A purposive sampling method was used to select two chemistry tutors and a college vice principal. The population consisted of 13 pre-service teachers, and to obtain a sample size of 9 pre-service teachers, a quota sampling technique was used to select 20% of 25 females and 20% of 20 males. Audio recordings were made during the interviews and then transcribed for analysis. The findings revealed insufficient reagents and tools and an inadequate chemistry laboratory. The results of this study have important implications for government policy. Specifically, constructing a chemistry laboratory and providing modern equipment, chemicals, and reagents to support the implementation of gender-responsive pedagogy (GRP) in chemistry lessons.
