Abstract

This paper develops an equilibrium model for a market with horizontal product differentiation in which firms set the prices of the varieties that they supply and, in some cases, one of them acts as a price leader. Given those elements, the paper explores which conditions should hold so that a horizontal merger or acquisition, which increases market concentration, generates an equilibrium with lower prices than the pre-merger ones.
