Abstract

Earlier work has pointed out the possibility of excessive entry into markets with initial increasing returns. This paper develops a model in which firms are able to open multiple plants. The variables of choice for each firm are the number of plants and the level of production for each plant. With initial increasing returns per plant, this paper shows that the free entry zero profit equilibrium is socially efficient. This analysis shows that characterization of a firm’s choices made by a particular model strongly influences the conclusions drawn from oligopolistic interaction.// En trabajos anteriores se ha señalado ya la posibilidad de una entrada excesiva a mercados con ganancias iniciales crecientes.
