Abstract

Introducción. A fines de la década de los setenta la economía brasileña sufrió un creciente deterioro de su situación externa, lo que rompió el equilibrio del proceso de crecimiento económico de los años setenta, conocido como "milagro brasileño". La segunda crisis del petróleo, el aumento de las tasas de interés en el orden internacional, la recesión mundial y el desarrollo desfavorable de los términos de intercambio impusieron una pesada carga sobre la balanza de pagos, lo que exigió un enorme esfuerzo para continuar el pago de los servicios de la deuda. Hasta 1982 el efecto de ese deterioro externo fue atenuado por la utlización de las reservas y la disponibilidad de líneas internacionales de crédito que financiaban de manera parcial los déficit en las transacciones corrientes...
