Abstract

Introducción. La práctica de los intercambios de deuda por acciones o de deuda por deuda a fin de reducir el endeudamiento excesivo de los países en desarrollo ha provocado una animada controversia. Los economistas académicos han contribuido al debate analizando las características de bienestar de tales intercambios, su potencial para reducir sus salidas de capital netas y el grado en que puedan aminorar los efectos de incentivo negativos de un arrastre de deuda. La atención se ha centrado en la determinación de los precios de la deuda en el mercado secundario y en los efectos que los intercambios puedan tener en estos precios. Véase por ejemplo los trabajos de Helman(1988 y 1989), Ffrench-Davis(1987), Krugman(1988a y b), Bulow y Rogoff(1988a y b) y Rodríguez(1989)...
