Comentarios al ensayo de Sweder van Wijnbergen

Abstract

Habiendo realizado mis propias exploraciones de la bibliografía existente sobre los efectos macroeconómicos de los controles de precios, puedo apreciar sin dificultad las observaciones de Sweder van Wijnbergen acerca de la escasez de trabajos en este campo, y por lo tanto la excelente contribución de su ensayo a un mejor entendimiento de los beneficios potenciales de un instrumento que ha sido muy usado en México y muy recomendado por personas prácticas, pero que hasta ahora ha carecido de una justificación teórica. Me parece que el ensayo de Van Wijnbergen logra elaborar un marco formal con el que puede hacerse una defensa sólida de los controles de precios y a partir del cual podemos empezar a evaluar sus méritos relativos en comparación con otros instrumentos desinflacionarios. Quisiera ofrecer algunos comentarios breves sobre ciertas direcciones en las que podría extenderse la investigación de Van Wijnbergen. Como señala Van Wijnbergen, su supuesto de bienes sustitutos simétricos(o bien el supuesto de un bien compuesto) impide toda consideración de los costos microeconómicos de los controles de precios...
