Comentarios al ensayo de Sweder van Wijnbergen

Abstract

El interesante ensayo de Sweder van Wijnbergen formaliza una de las importantes herramientas de política usadas recientemente en los programas de estabilización: los controles de precios. Van Wijnbergen aborda el problema de la credibilidad y el papel de los controles en la minimización de las pérdidas de bienestar. Estudia el problema en un modelo dinámico con una estructura de competencia monopólica e incertidumbre acerca de las futuras políticas gubernamentales. Sus resultados racionalizan la evidencia empírica de algunos planes de estabilización que se han emprendido recientemente: los controles de precios son un instrumento eficaz para minimizar el producto sólo si las políticas económicas subyacentes son compatibles con los niveles a los que se controlan. Sólo haré algunos comentarios acerca de ciertos problemas que podrían abordarse de acuerdo con estos lineamientos. En el modelo no hay costo social de la inflación. Como puede observarse en la grafica 2 los equilibrios con inflación baja y alta son iguales en términos de producto...
