Comentario de Nicholas Kaldor sobre "el discreto encanto" de la burguesia chilena

Abstract

Introducción. Nicholas Kaldor pertenecía a la generación en vía de rápida extinción de los economistas que toman en serio los problemas del "mundo real" y que al hacerlo reconocen que las matemáticas no son un sustituto útil del análisis económico. La contribución de Kaldor a la economía política cubre un conjunto asombroso de temas, como lo revelan sus ochos volúmenes de Collected Economic Essays. Por lo tanto, no es sorprendente encontrar en uno de ellos un artículo sobre los problemas económicos de Chile escrito durante una visita a ese país en 1956 como consultor de la Comisión Económica de las Naciones Unidas para la América Latina(CEPAL). En este artículo Kaldor intenta dar respuestas a la difícil pero fundamental cuestión de por qué un país con tan enorme potencial de desarrollo económico(humano y natural) sólo pudo alcanzar una decepcionante tasa de crecimiento económico...
