La gestación del Plan Antinflacionario del Perú

Abstract

I. Introducción. La Gran inflación peruana nació en el año 1974 con un aumento en el costo de vida que sobrepasó 20%, rompiendo una larga tradición de estabilidad monetaria. Como excepción de un corto brote de inflación alta (30% anual) sufrida en los años 1947-1948, la tasa anual fue menos de 10% durante más de medio siglo. A diferencia de la rápida estabilización que caracterizó la experiencia de los años cuarenta, el brote inflacionario (22% anual) que surgió en 1974-1975 fue el inicio de un proceso de alta y creciente inflación que desembocó en tasas mensuales de 10 a 12% durante el primer semestre de 1985, y colocó al país al borde de la hiperinflación. El control de esa amenaza fue el primer objetivo económico del gobierno aprista. A los pocos días de su inauguración en julio de 1985 el gobierno dictó un conjunto de medidas que conformaron un plan antinflacionario basado en el control de los precios clave y en un shock psicológico...
