Abstract

Una presunción común en las discusiones de política económica es que las entradas de capital provocan apreciaciones del tipo de cambio real (TCR) en las pequeñas economías abiertas. A la Inversa, cuando debe generarse una salida de capital a veces se considera necesaria una depreciación del TCR. los movimientos del TCR son importantes porque provocan cambios en la asignación de recursos entre los sectores de la economía, los que pueden constituir por sí mismos un objetivo de política económica. La idea general es que es una pequeña economía abierta las grandes entradas de capital se asocian con altos niveles de gasto agregado que a su vez se reflejan en déficit de cuenta corriente. Además, cuando los bienes producidos en la economía pueden separarse en bienes de comercio exterior (con precio exógeno) y bienes de mercado interior (con precio endógeno), un gasto elevado en relación con el ingreso tenderá a aumentar el precio relativo (interno) de los últimos en términos de los primeros...
