Abstract

The problem of the economic valuation of the environmental impact due to a catastrophe, such as the caused by the Prestige, is that many of goods and resources affected by the oil spill lack of a real market. The economy has developed several methods to measure non-market goods and services. This paper outlines the main methods of valuation and discuses the possibility of using them in the valuation of the impacts to natural resources affected by a catastrophe.
