Abstract

The present survey is a summary of the main ideas and conclusions of the study carried out in the year 2000, in which were analysed the keys of success of the economic development politics that since a time ago, the different North American public administrations (federal, state and local) were developing in order to face the raised challenges by the new economy. At the same time, there were some temptations to compare them with the politics that were promoted in Europe. In spite of the passed time since its realization, the achieved conclusions are still valid in order to reach the challenge so that the European Union can be converted to an economy based on the technological innovation and on the most competitive knowledge at the world level.
