Abstract

This article explains the positive proliferation of initiatives that can be associated to concepts of «clusterisation of economic activity» throughout the world. It also emphasises the need to confer an objective for the orientation of these instruments that is none other than the competitive improvement of the space involved (town, region, area) in which it develops. This concept also envisages all of the elements that make up a cluster (differentiating it from the «managing or facilitating» instrument involved). Finally, the article uses a case study on Competitiveness in the Basque Country to approach the recommendations concerning the optimisation of the current system or cluster network and the generation of new instruments for the achievement of a «complete» strategy that would generate a competitive platform. This example and recommendations allow for its generalisation to other spaces.
