Abstract

This article analyzes the theoretical framework of the discussion on the economic regu-lation of the retail trade. It hen makes a more detailed analysis of the evolution of the sector in Spain and in some Autonomous Communities, comparing it with experiences in other European countries. The analysis of the public policies implemented over the last few years and the assessment thereof by the various economic agents conforms the third part of this study, which then concludes with an array of presently unresolved problems as well as elements that would have to be taken into account in the discussion on the regulation of the domestic trade in the future.
