Abstract

This paper analyses the results of research carried out on innovative attitudes in a sample of about 1.000 Italian firms situated in Southern Italy. The analysis by innovation type shows that these firms (with less than 100 employees) have a considerable tendency towards innovation. This tendency is stronger in the case of traditional innovations and more limited in the case of more sophisticated ones. To explore the causes of these differences, we have used the Logit model, which correlated different innovation types with a series of variables regarded as explanatory. The results show that the factors positively and negatively affecting the firms in their innovative process change according to the technological level of each innovation and to the related organization and management implications.
