Abstract

This article is an analysis of savings bank competition strategies within the specific savings bank segment in banking. The analysis is based on a theoretical model of imperfect cómpetition from which it is possible to derive links among variables which, in turn, may be interpretad in terms of their results in the various markets. The most important conclusion is that market structures significantly contribute to the interpretation of savings bank results. This conclusion is endorsed by the policy of mergers and takeovers developed over the last few years within this field.
