Abstract

This article assesses the relative overall impact of the activity of the Industrial Sector on the environment in the Basque Country as a whole and outlines the characteristics of the Basque production structure which have an especially negative effect on that impact. lt defines, in consequence, the lines of activity which are susceptible of being instrumented from within the authority of Industrial Policy to palliate the effects of industry on the environment. The applied industrial policy has included improvements in the environment within its lines of activity. Nevertheless, the final solution must be determined necessarily by a wide consensos which allows the clear definition of priorities.
