Abstract

The Securities Market Reform Law has modernised the stock market in Spain, calling into question the future continuity of the Bilbao Stock Exchange. From the intense debates now occumng as a result of this Law, Rafael Cosgaya and Ildefonso Grande have identified the problems that appear to have greatest impact on this question. The article offers a view of the general situation in the Spanish stock market and the role of the Bilbao Stock Exchange, so as to decide upon a strategy for its survival, which, in the authors opinion, can only occur if a major effort is made.
