Abstract

In attempting to increase their attractiveness to employees, a growing number of firms focuses on corporate mobility management (CMM), improving existing and introducing new corporate mobility and transportation offerings (CMTO) to their workforce. Taking an integrative perspective, this study draws on Self-Determination Theory to develop a conceptual model linking two important CMTO characteristics – scope and innovativeness – to employee-level outcomes through basic psychological need satisfaction (PNS). Drawing on a structural equation modelling approach, we test the model using data obtained from a cross-industry sample of n = 959 employees in Germany. Findings reveal that both, scope and innovativeness of CMTO, relate positively to CMTO satisfaction, and, subsequently, employee loyalty, with autonomy, competence, and relatedness mediating these relationships. Based on these findings, implications for transport policy and the design of CMTO are discussed.
