Equitable access to satellite broadband services: Challenges and opportunities for developing countries

Abstract

•The global satellite broadband policies directly impact the much-debated right to Internet access and the future-oriented Internet governance agenda.•The international nature of space connectivity necessitates global governance anchored in international law.•Developing countries have a legitimate interest in participating in global governance processes that shape norms and policies for satellite broadband.•Equitable access principle in international telecommunications law and outer space law justify the developing countries' right to demand fair terms of access to satellite broadband.•Promoting terms of equitable access based on universal and meaningful connectvitiy principles will foster understanding among stakeholders and ensure policy and regulatory coherence.
