Psychology in an integrated undergraduate medical curriculum

Abstract

In spite of recommendations that undergraduate medical curricula should include behavioural science disciplines, the attempt to introduce these disciplines into already well established courses has been fraught with difficulty. The way in which the discipline of psychology has been included in the integrated problem-based medical curriculum being developed at Newcastle, N.S.W. is described. The advantages of such an innovative course for increasing students' awareness, understanding and utilisation of psychological material are discussed.
