Post-Communist executives and new management freedoms: A gaming/simulation study

Abstract

The challenge facing today's post-Communist countries is how to become an integral part of the European Community. However, the legacy of the past may slow this process down. The purpose of this paper is to present some elements of management standards and management culture inherited by Polish executives who have been running their organizations under the Communist regime. Numerous gaming/simulations were used as a "research laboratory". Behaviour patterns generated during the study and their relevance to business realities in post-war Poland are discussed. The concept of the barrier of routinized perception, the fourth structural decision rationality constraint of a universal character, is presented and illustrated.
