Abstract

The study of managers and their problems has a long and rich history in Poland, as well as everywhere else, although the reasons for interest in this group of people are different in developed countries to those for our country. This article describes some of these differences and characterizes developments in the behaviour of the managerial corps in Poland, 1980-1989. The picture of Polish managers based on empirical studies is not an optimistic one, particularly in the context of a transition from a centrally controlled to a market economy.
