How does digital transformation drive green innovation in agricultural supply chains?

Abstract

Facing the challenges of global climate change, resource and environmental pressures, and persistently high agricultural carbon emissions, along with the SDGs and the targets for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, digital transformation has become an indispensable pathway for promoting green innovation in agricultural supply chains. This article confirms the effect and process of digital transformation on green innovation from a supply chain viewpoint based on data from China's listed agribusinesses from 2011 to 2022. With this effect strengthened in a higher levels of analyst attention but hampered by government subsidies, the results suggest that digital transformation greatly supports green innovation in supply chains. Heterogeneity study shows that low uncertainty environments, innovative cities, and state-owned companies especially show the favorable influence of digital transformation on supply chain green innovation. This research aims to advance the pace of supply chain green innovation, accelerate the research and adoption of green technologies, and lead agriculture toward a low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and sustainable future.
