Abstract

The objective of the present study is to investigate the optimum storage size as well as the collector area for domestic hot water systems (DHWS). A Computer aided simulation programme was developed for the system components and carried out in a block oriented simulation language. The calculations were carried out for the year s' seasons. The extracted load was taken as 175 litres per day at 60 °C which was considered as adequate for a family consists of four persons. A graphical method to determine the required values for the size and the collector area has been developed. The final results showed that in order to satisfying the present loading conditions under the annual solar fraction (about 70 %), the optimum value for the collector area was about 7.8 m2 and the optimum storage size was about 385 litres.
