Abstract

In the context of the growing demand for large-scale solar thermal power plants, heliostat field with higher heat collection and optical efficiency is needed to be developed, and a dual-tower heliostat field can meet the above requirement, however the research on the dual-tower heliostat field has not yet been widely carried out. In this work, a dual-tower heliostat field with the capacity to drive a solar thermal power plant with a rated power output of 100 MW and solar multiples of 2 has been constructed. A novel strategy is hereby proposed as a solution to modifying the arrangement of the dual-tower heliostats field. Optimal annual weighted optical efficiency of 54.88 % is obtained through optimized arrangement and tower heights. With the same number of heliostats, a dual-tower heliostat field is most efficient when the left and right parts of it are tangent. A single-tower heliostat field with same heat collection capacity is constructed under the same conditions and compared with a dual-tower heliostat field in terms of efficiency and the results show that the efficiency of dual-tower heliostat field is 13.26 % greater than that of single-tower heliostat field.
