Navigating the Trade-offs: The nonlinear effects of digital transformation on supply chain resilience through efficiency and transparency

Abstract

As global supply chains face increasing disruption risks, digital transformation (DT) has become a key driver of supply chain resilience (SCR) in the manufacturing sector. Based on empirical data from Chinese A-share listed manufacturing firms, this study investigates the nonlinear relationship and reveals an inverted U-shaped relationship between digital transformation and supply chain resilience, highlighting the importance of avoiding digital overreach and systemic risk. Furthermore, the findings show that the inverted U-shaped pattern between digital transformation and supply chain resilience is derived from two mediators, supply chain efficiency and information transparency. Specifically, there exists an inverted U-shaped association between supply chain efficiency and supply chain resilience, as well as digital transformation and information transparency. These findings contribute to the growing discourse on digital transformation, suggesting that technological advancement in manufacturing must be aligned not only with performance goals but also with long-term resilience and sustainable development in supply chains.
