Incorporating human reliability analysis into project buffer management: A novel approach for enhancing project performance

Abstract

Considering that the knowledge resources, behavioral preferences and cognitive styles of project team members can have an impact on the project execution process. In this paper, we propose a new buffer management model based on human reliability analysis. First, a multi-dimensional reliability assessment model is established based on team members' internal and external performance impact factors to quantify work reliability. Second, project buffers are determined by analyzing the correlation between member work reliability and project safety time. Finally, dynamic adjustment and continuous improvement during project monitoring ensures that tracking and adjustments are made based on team member status and project buffer consumption. The simulation results show that the comprehensive performance of project duration and cost is improved. This study can provide quantitative decision support for project managers to address the subjective preferences of team members in response to the impact of human behavior on system reliability.
