Coupling-induced transition of states in an asymmetrical double-well potential

Abstract

Time-dependent picture of two harmonically coupled particles passing over an asymmetrical barrier and then distributing over a double-well potential is considered. The coupling-induced transition of states is investigated through calculating the survival probability of the center-of-mass of two particles in a metastable state. The results show that the center-of-mass of two coupled particles passing over a smooth barrier is easier than a single particle; the survival probability of the center-of-mass of two particles in the metastable state of double-well potential can be larger than 12. This can be well explained by an effective potential of the center-of-mass of two particles feeling, namely, the minimum of the metastable well with a small curvature is risen lower than that of the stable well with a large curvature.
