Anomalies in the scaling of the α-relaxation studied by dielectric spectroscopy

Abstract

The scaling of the α-relaxation for propylene carbonate, glycerol and propylene glycol is evaluated by broadband dielectric spectroscopy in a frequency range from 10-5 Hz to 1010 Hz. At low temperature the mean relaxation frequency ƒp follows the well-known Vogel-Fulcher-Tamann law whereas at high temperatures ƒp can be described by an Arrhenius law or by a power law predicted by the mode coupling theory. Both regions can be separated by a crossover temperature. Also the dielectric relaxation strength shows approximately in this temperature range a change in their temperature dependencies.
