The Boltzmann-Lorentz model for particles with spin

Abstract

The Grad method of moments is applied in order to find the approximate solution to the linearized Boltzmann-Lorentz model for particles with spin. The hyperbolic equations of hydrodynamics annd generalized hydrodynamics are obtained and regions of validity of these equations are explicitly stated. Closed relations with projection-operator techniques are discussed showing that the Grad method is a version of a perturbation expansion in small space gradients. The transition to the parabolic equations of conventional hydrodynamics in the fluid dynamical limit is studied in detail.
