Abstract

This pre-registered systematic literature review (SLR) investigates the landscape of household finance research in China. Motivated by the rapid growth and fragmentation of literature in this field, we aim to synthesize key themes, empirical findings, and methodological trends. Guided by the framework of Gomes et al. (2021), we classify the literature into five dimensions: asset participation, borrowing and liabilities, intertemporal decisions, behavioral aspects, and market frictions. Using a PRISMA-based protocol, we apply Boolean search strategies across Scopus and Web of Science to identify and screen relevant studies published between 2000 and 2025. The expected contributions include the first comprehensive synthesis of household finance research in China, the integration of housing finance into the thematic structure, and a mapping of methodological evolution. This SLR offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and financial practitioners seeking to understand household financial behavior in China's unique institutional and cultural context.
