An evaluation of static and dynamic errors in the solution of a first-order partial differential equation on an analog computer

Abstract

In solving partial differential equations on an analog computer through an approximation to differential-difference equations, inaccuracies in the solution will always occur. This error is derived exactly for a linear first-order partial differential equation by the use of three different first-order differences. The error as a function of the type of difference and of the number of increments, which have been used for the solution, has been discussed.
