Abstract

This paper discusses the possibilities of environment visualization process simplifications, without reducing the image quality. Its primary focus include fixed-observer situations, such as in gunnery or air traffic control simulators. For such situations, raster photography of the real terrain is used as a background, and artificial objects are superposed on it. An application like this can run either standalone or networked, on single or multiple screen PCs with two- and/or three-dimensional graphics accelerators.
