Abstract

This paper examines the aeropolitical relations between the USA and five European countries: the UK, Germany, France, Spain and the Netherlands. It outlines the importance of the North Atlantic to the carriers that serve these routes and discusses the varied development of the different markets. With particular reference to the bilateral agreements, it identifies why some European carriers have enjoyed success on the North Atlantic while others have lost both money and market share. It reviews the issues that influence bilateral relations and briefly comments on future developments.
