Abstract

This study investigates the impact of salaries on the job well-being of university teachers in China, employing a mixed-methods approach that combines surveys and interviews at a provincial public university. Findings reveal a strong correlation between salary satisfaction and overall job well-being, particularly with regard to workload, organisational support, and student–teacher interactions. Although teachers are generally satisfied with their income, salary satisfaction ranks lower compared to other aspects of jobs, indicating it remains a key concern. The study highlights the complex nature of academic job satisfaction and underscores the important role of salaries in enhancing multiple dimensions of well-being.
