Abstract

Employing a panel dataset for 31 Chinese provinces (excluding Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao) from 2007 to 2023, this study empirically examines how inclusive financial development (IFD) and long-term care contribute to the expansion of the provincial-level eldercare sector and the pathways that drive this relationship. The findings are as follows: (1) Long-term care promotes the development of the regional elderly care industry; (2) There is a significant positive correlation between IFD and the development of the regional elderly care industry; (3) The level of marketization exhibits a significant threshold effect in the impact of IFD on the development of the regional elderly care industry; (4) Long-term care effectively promotes the development of the regional elderly care industry by enhancing the supply capacity of elderly care services; (5) IFD effectively promotes the development of the regional elderly care industry by improving the consumption capacity of the elderly.
